Biography
My name is Maria Mercedes Gomez, and I am originally from Bogota, Colombia. I have also lived in Mexico for over seven years. I hold two Bachelor's degrees in history, one from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico and the other from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. I also worked at the Colombian Truth Commission, Social Service projects in rural areas of Mexico, and at IGO International IDEA in Panama City, addressing gender and security issues in the Latin American Region. For my MA, I chose to pursue a multidisciplinary program with a major in history and a minor in global human rights at the University of Texas. Over time, experiences studying and working with violence, victims, and democratic aid in Colombia, Panama, and Mexico, as well as my current studies in the United States, have given me a multicultural and comparative analytical perspective on the workings of power and democracies. I am a piano player, soccer fan, and active runner.
