We Are Grateful
Alumni continue to support the Department with real generosity, for which we are truly grateful. In the aftermath of the University’s belt-tightening this was particularly welcome, helping to support student and faculty members of the department in their courses and research. Young scholars need to spend time on site in archives and other locations, meeting interviewees or absorbing the ways cultures differ in order to hone their craft. The opportunity to share their ideas with other like-minded individuals both develops their communication and pedagogical skills and creates community. And, most of all, people in the past faced deeply troubled times; learning how they solved the pressing problems of their day can only help us address the ones we face now.
