- Professor Amy Stanley is named one out of the two Guggenheim Fellows

- Joel MOKYR has been named a Citation Laureate by the Institute for Scientific Information, one of 16 researchers around the world whose "work is deemed to be 'of Nobel Class'"
- Kate MASUR's book Until Justice Be Done: America's First Civil Rights Movement, From the Revolution to Reconstruction (Norton, 2021) was named a finalist for the Museum of African American History's Stone book award, awarded to an exceptional adult non-fiction book in the field of African-American history and culture written in a literary style.
- Lina BRITTO's 2020 book Marijuana Boom: The Rise and Fall of Colombia's First Drug Paradise (University of California Press, 2020) has been awarded honorable mention in Colombia's most prestigious national book prize in the social sciences and humanities, awarded by Fundación Alejandro Ángel Escobar. - Michaela KLEBER has won the OAH's 2021 Lerner-Scott Prize for the best doctoral dissertation in US Women's History.
- Michael ALLEN has been awarded the Charles Deering McCormick Professorship for Teaching Excellence.
- Lydia BARNETT has won a 2021 Howard Foundation Fellowship.
- Melissa MACAULEY won a 2020 Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research in China, which has been postponed to 2021.
- Paul RAMIREZ was the Donald L. Saunders Fellow at the John Carter Brown Library for the 2020-2021 academic year.
- Scott SOWERBY was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for 2020-21 for his new book project, "Absolution and Arms: The Violent Origins of Religious Toleration in Early Modern Europe."
- Amy STANLEY published a new book Stranger in the Shogun's City: A Japanese Woman and Her World (Scribner, 2020), which was named a best book of the year by the Economist, New Statesman and Times of London as well as the Washington Post, besides being longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize (2020). It has now also won the National Book Critics Circle prize for Biography and the Jacqueline Bograd Weld PEN prize for biography. It has also been named a finalist for the Historical Writers' Association non-fiction award.
- Helen TILLEY, working as a principal investigator with collaborators Hannah-Louise Clark (University of Glasgow) and Michael Oladejo Afoláyan (independent scholar, was awarded a three-year $245k Collaborative Research grant from the NEH for their project, “Constructing African Medical Heritage: Legacies of Empire and the Geopolitics of Culture, 1890-1990.”
- Keith WOODHOUSE received a 2020-21 Kaplan Institute fellowship, while his book The Ecocentrists won the Society for U.S. Intellectual History Book Prize in 2019.
- Dyan ELLIOTT received a Guggenheim fellowship for 2020.
- Henri LAUZIERE received the Alumnae of Northwestern Teaching Professorship in 2020.
The WCAS Teaching Awards for 2019-20 were announced in Dec. 2020:
- Daniel IMMERWAHR won the E. LeRoy Hall Teaching Award
- Paul RAMIREZ received the Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research Award
- Jayson PORTER won an Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher Award.
Awards and prizes 2017-2020
- Daniel IMMERWAHR was invited to give the Last Lecture to the Class of 2019; his book, How to Hide an Empire, was the Finalist for the Mark Lynton History Prize and was also a New York Times Critics' Top Books of 2019 title and a Chicago Tribune Ten Best Books of 2019 title; in 2020-21 he received a Kaplan Institute fellowship.
- Kate MASUR received a NEH fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year.
- Sarah MAZA was awarded a fellowship at the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio, Italy for November of 2019.
- Deborah COHEN was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018.
- Caitlin FITZ won a Faculty Fellowship, American Council of Learned Societies (2018-2019) and James Broussard Best First Book Prize, Society for Historians of the Early American Republic (2017) .
- Amy STANLEY won the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Article Prize for “Maidservants’ Tales: Narrating Domestic and Global History in Eurasia, 1600-1900” (2016) and a Fellowship for Advanced Social Science Research on Japan (Japan-US Friendship Commission/NEH) in 2019.
