Hannah Simmons (she/her) studies enslaved womanhood in motherhood in the 18th and 19th century United States. Her work focuses on how enslaved women used the legal system to claim their children and grandchildren. Her work attempts to reimagine enslaved women’s and mothers’ agency. Hannah earned her BA from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts
