Anisha Bhat is a doctoral student in History, focusing on the early modern Indian Ocean World. Her research interests include the cultural and social histories of diaspora groups in the context of Eurasian empires and Indian Ocean slavery.
Anisha holds a BA in History from Pomona College and an MPhil in World History from the University of Cambridge. Her previous research examined the institution of elite African slavery in early modern Islamic empires. It highlighted in particular the socio-political, cultural, and religious transformations wrought by Africans on Mughal and Ottoman landscapes.
