Biography

David Li is a PhD student in East Asian history and a Mellon Cluster Fellow in Asian Studies. He is broadly interested in the maritime history of East Asia between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries, with a particular interest in China's maritime frontier and the historical agents who inhabited, traversed, or interacted with the littoral in various ways. A native of southeast China, he received his B.A. in History and Economics from Boston University and his A.M. in Regional Studies–East Asia from Harvard University. Before coming to Northwestern, he worked in the rare books and special collections section at the Harvard-Yenching Library in Cambridge, MA.
