James Hassett

Jamie is a doctoral student studying Modern European History. He researches the development of European socialist and labor movements in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, with a focus on Germany. He focuses on the intersection of ideology, politics, and everyday life and seeks to connect the experience of German socialism to the broader international context of the period.

Jamie is currently working on an article examining the intersection of public space and politics in the first May Day demonstrations of 1890 in Berlin. He is also interested in the emotions of politics and the role they played in the formation of the German Social Democratic Party.
