Retiree Spotlight: Sarah Maza
On June 4, 2024, the History Department and guests gathered in Harris Hall to fête the career of Sarah Maza on the occasion of her retirement. The mood was elated, even mirthful, while speakers celebrated Sarah’s 45 years in French and cultural history, and her 45 years in Northwestern’s History Department, where she arrived as an assistant professor at the precocious age of 25.

Retiree Spotlight: David Schoenbrun
On May 31, 2024, colleagues gathered to celebrate the career of David Schoenbrun, who was retiring after twenty-five years at Northwestern, during which he made incalculable contributions to the department, the Program of African Studies, and the broader field of African history.

In Memoriam
With equal parts sadness and affection, we write to announce that Raymond Foster Kierstead, Jr., Richard F. Scholtz Professor of History and Humanities Emeritus at Reed College, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Portland, Oregon, with his devoted family by his side.
